As part of the Gardens of the Hippodrome, we are fortunate to be able to screen, on the screens of the Indoor Paddock, Res Nullius, the very first documentary feature film by Thomas Jean, founder of the Brussels media La Minute Sauvage. A rare opportunity to discover on the big screen a film that questions our relationship with the living, right in the heart of our region.
Who is Thomas Jean?
Fascinated by the wild since childhood, Thomas Jean has learnt to observe and identify wildlife. Self-taught and driven by a genuine passion for fieldwork, he created *La Minute Sauvage* to share his encounters with the animals that inhabit our cities (foxes, falcons, bats…) – often without us even realising it. After years spent exploring Brussels and its surroundings to observe the lifestyles and challenges specific to our urban wildlife, he is now, with *Res Nullius*, taking his first steps into feature-length documentary filmmaking.
What is the film about?
Res Nullius meets the Brussels wildlife to explore an essential question: how to continue to make space for the living in a city under increasing pressure on housing and space? Between coexistence and conflict, the film questions our ability to share the city with the species that already live there, and offers concrete avenues to reconcile nature and urban planning.

The film has received a remarkable reception since its release: supported by over 300 citizens who participated in its crowdfunding, it gathered a large audience at the Cinéma Aventure in Brussels, where it was kept on the bill for several months! A rare performance for an independent documentary, proof that the subject strikes a chord with the people of Brussels.
A meeting with the director
The icing on the cake: Thomas Jean will be present after the screening for a question-and-answer session. A unique opportunity to exchange directly with him about his work, his encounters with Brussels' wildlife, and the issues raised by the film.
